Unofficial firmware warning

I’ve used my trezor in the past several times with no issues, however today I said the firmware was outdated so I tried updated it on the trezor suite and it forces a password recovery. But not when I try to connect my device, it’s not recognized and I keep getting a unofficial firmware detected warning. When I select abort, it just tells me to visit the website. The only other option is to select I’ll take the risk. Does anyone have any advice?

Hi @Spaul,
it is essential to have wallet backup (aka Recovery Seed) for such situations. Remember, never-ever share it with anyone who would offer any kind of help or support. Also, you enter it only into HW wallet, not into any webpage or programs.

Also, you need to be sure, that your Trezor Suite is from original source with valid signatures. It is essential - otherwise you can’t trust what it tells you or if that truly validates your HW (TS3 and TS5 with Secure Element model only).

If you have backup and you are sure about purity of your Trezor Suite setup, there could be various issue like connectivity to your wallet during firmware update => incomplete update fails to validate firmware signature.

You can find Trezor learn portal web page (note: it is meant for initial device setup):

Warning “Unofficial firmware detected”

and try to fix it yourself. But also, if you are not truly sure what you are doing, than rather contact official Trezor support.

the standard way to fix this is go to bootloader mode (hold down left button while plugging in Trezor), then start Trezor Suite and click “reinstall firmware” or something like that
