Trying to recover my old wallet from a stolen Trezor Safe 3.

Hello,

My Trezor Safe 3 got stolen, but luckily I do have a backup TS3, and I still know my:

  1. Recovery seed
  2. PIN
  3. Passphrase (for the hidden wallets?)

So now I want to transfer all of my XMR holdings to a new TS3 wallet.

But I want to do this as securely as possible. Entering my recovery seed on a network-connected computer would be considered a no-go for me.
So what would the strategy of transferring those funds?

I’m thinking of the following, but obviously please correct me if I’m wrong or missed a step:

  1. Install & update a temporary Linux distro on a laptop, and install the getmonero wallet.
  2. Cut off network (!!!)
  3. Restore recovery seed into that getmonero wallet.
  4. Sign a transaction to move the funds to the new address.

Or should I incorporate the XMR offline wallet generator in there somewhere? Monero wallet generator

Thanks

you have a backup device

restore your seed into the backup device, set up getmonero wallet, recover your wallet.

then use this setup to send out your funds to an exchange, wipe the TS3 and generate a new wallet, then receive the XMR back.

you can also do this without involving an exchange:

  1. generate and set up a new seed and a new Trezor-backed Monero wallet
  2. write down a receive address
  3. erase and recover your old seed and open your old wallet
  4. send everything to the receive address from the new wallet
  5. erase and recover the new seed

Thanks for the quick reply.
Just to be sure, steps 2 and 3 are supposed to be this, right?

  1. erase new wallet and recover your old seed and open your old wallet
  2. send everything from the old wallet to the receive address of the new wallet

If yes, then I’m going to attempt this right now. Wish me luck :crossed_fingers:

correct.

by “erase” I typically mean “wipe Trezor”. then “send from” is from the seed that is currently on Trezor.

ah, I see what you mean now

this is supposed to be “to the receive address which you got from the new wallet”
