TREZOR ONE "device update available" - trustworthy or not?

Companions,

today, I opened my TREZOR ONE to reconcile the balance. From time to time,
a TREZOR suite update is available and then certainly downloaded. But today,
something new happened and I will be glad to read your advice.

The TREZOR ONE display offered a firmware update to the device. It shows a
remark that the suite has its latest update (25.2.2), but the firmware is currently
“Universal 1.12.1”, whereas a new version “Universal 1.13.0” is offered.

When clicking on ‘installation’, the next screen asks whether I have my wallet backup.
This is the weird thing: The TREZOR ONE wants me to enter my seed phrase.
Please explain whether this is really safe or maybe a first step to enter a trap.

Thank you in advance for your attention.
Sincerely, FarView

does your Trezor device actually ask for your seed phrase?

oooooorrrrrr does Suite just say “make sure you have the backup”?

because, that’s two very different things.

like “make sure you got an umbrella with you, in case it rains” vs “open your umbrella right now”

When updating firmware, Suite will always tell you “make sure you have the backup”. This is because there is a small risk that the update doesn’t succeed and your Trezor will be erased.

Normally, neither Suite nor Trezor will ask you to actually input the backup anywhere.

Dear matejcik,
thanks a lot for your feedback and help. I finally didn’t need to enter
my phrase, as it was shown as an alternative for the case my backup
is lacking - but I keep the seed phrase on a piece of paper.
So I downloaded the firmware update and the TREZOR ONE works
as usual.
Thank you again and enjoy your weekend.
Sincerely, FarView
