Trezor One backup recovery once working is no longer working and Trezor support says wait 3 day Ticket ID: 42665 s :

I am in need of help with regards Trezor One wallet backup recovery that is now saying invalid seed. I have did seed backup verification successfully and then stored them offline. I have recovered the wallet before with the same device and it worked. Now the problem is - 3 days or so ago, when I need to use the wallet, it did not connect to the Trezor Suite and did not display coins. It said the passphrase has not coins. It said the wallet is not backed up. There was notifications for updates. I did update the device but still I could not see the coins and app did not connect. Immediately I became suspecious that something wrong had happened.

When I opened the trezor website. It was catastrophically broken. The whole css was not working. I checked chrome inspector and found messages showing connection problems. But all other websites were running. I then tried to access trezor support. It too did not open. This was very strange.

Then I did device wipe out. It asked for backup which failed - hanged but still that was not my wallet.

Frustrated I complained on TrustPilot Reviews and got someone who suggested I change the router and pc. I checked the other pc. Trezor website was broken and realized the laptop was now on a different router due to power outages. I switched off the second router and pcs resorted to original router. Then trezor website was working on my pcs.

But Trezor One was still not connecting and showing coins. I did standard and advanced backup recovery more than 4 times and still got the Recovery failed Invalid seed error - on the same seed words that worked before. I tried the following day hoping may the servers were rebooting still nothing worked.

I am here because still Recovery failed is showing when recovering wallet via a backup that worked more than twice. I then downloaded the latest Trezor Suite App but still Recovery failed shows on seeds words that worked more than twice.

My questions : What else could be the problem? Could the firmware update be the cause? If so then how do I reverse it? Coud the device be damaged? Is Trezor as safe as they claim to be or it just a marketing campaign to drive sales? Can this problem be solved with a new Trezor One device? Can these 24 words help recover wallet from another different wallet, not trezor? If so then which one can I try? This is extremely frustrating if I fail to recover coins we depend on and using Trezor hardware wallet is what we always recommend.

The very fact that there is lots of people on queue for support leading to over 3 days waiting is proof many things are wrong with Trezor! Fine now I have sorted and noted there was router issue. The trezor site is running and app running, why are the 24 words that worked before many times not working now?

Any assistance with this is highly appreciated.

Unbelievable, now my wallet is back!!! So the problem was with Trezor? Something must have been wrong with their servers? This must be a lesson to all Trezor users. Yes the same back is working now!

Hi @wims,
this seems to be a bit chaotic post to me, blaming trezor, blaming broken website, blaming router, falsely blaming support…

Anyway, let’s be looking forward, not backward. These old wallet backup based on BIP39 (12 or 24 wallet/seed backups) have checksum against typo. Unfortunately, the checksum is not bullet proof and is quite week. There is a chance (1 of 256) that even when you (by mistake or typo) use different word, you will pass the checksum. In another words Trezor nor any other HW vendor would notify you, that you made a mistake and you will look into different valid (but empty) wallet.

So newer HW model can handle SLIP39, which is much robust - having internal and external strong checksum to rule out mistakes. It uses 20 words (not 12/24 words) and can be even mathematically splited in Multi-Share backup. Unfortunately this newer standard is not supported on Trezor model One. That HW is simply too old and not having enough resources to handle this advanced technology concept - i guess.

Maybe time to start considering an upgrade of your corner stone :innocent:
