Old Trezor devices: anything to do for long term safety?

Hello,

I am a long time user of Trezor hardware and so I own several devices (including some from competitors :slight_smile: ). I came on the forum today to read the updates on the upcoming quantum-resistance issue, and I found pretty much all I needed to know.

I got an additional questions regarding the oldest Trezor devices (e.g. Trezor One): is there anything that needs to be done today for those old devices, e.g. checking if the bitcoin wallet address type/format is still compatible with the updated ones, or anything else to keep the tokens safe long term?

At this time, there isn’t anything you need to do immediately.

I would simply recommend keeping both Trezor Suite and your Trezor device firmware up to date. We regularly release updates that include security improvements, bug fixes, and new features, so installing them when they become available is the best way to ensure you have the latest protections and functionality.

If any action is ever required from users, we will communicate it clearly through our official channels and within Trezor Suite itself.

I tend to use the Trezor Suite via web browser, somehow I feel safer than having a local installed app on my laptop that could be potentially attacked by a malware - same goes fro browsers but since these latter are much more exposed to the public, I reckon there is more security from attacks.

Is using the web Trezor Suite as safe as the laptop app then?

Assuming you’re using the official Trezor Suite, both the desktop application and the web version are secure and provide the same level of protection for your Trezor device.

That said, I would personally recommend using the desktop version of Trezor Suite whenever possible. One of its main advantages is that it significantly reduces the risk of accidentally visiting a malicious phishing website. Unfortunately, scammers sometimes create fake websites that appear in search engine results, and users searching for “Trezor Suite” may occasionally encounter them.

By using the desktop application downloaded directly from our official website, you avoid this risk entirely and can be confident that you’re using the genuine Trezor software.

Thanks! I think that risk must be mitigated using a trusted and verified bookmark saved in the browwer pointing to the official and real Trezor Suite website.
