No because the Trezor will just give you one of the 20 hard-coded ones. It’s different from before so you think everything is OK. It’s not.
(If you can update firmware to a legit version, and then generate a new seed, that does save you. But, again, the fake can pretend to install the update and not actually do it.)
Possibly but not necessarily. The scammers have thought of this, in the fake devices we have seen in the past, the passphrase was invisibly shortened to just the first character.
So again, you think you’re creating a new wallet, but all the scammer has to do is try each letter of the alphabet (plus numbers and special chars, but you see the point).
Remzi - thank you for the help. I know it’s easy for me to say, but there are only 2 people that know I own crypto. One is my wife (technically illiterate). The other is my friend, he also can hardly operate a flip phone, has no computer, and has never seen anything, unless he can crack into a gun safe without my knowledge. There is no doubt in my mind that the seed phrase did not get out by me. I have scanned YEARS of backups to see if I left anything out in the breeze. Nothing. I don’t use online storage, everything is here in my control. I have saved nothing, except the piece of paper in the safe. Remember, I don’t recall seeing a red screen with a warning stating ‘don’t use this seed’.
Do you have a list of the 20 hard-coded ones? Is there a way to reset the device, and have it go through initial setup? If it is still hacked, wouldn’t it preselect a seed for me?
When I click on bottom right for chat, I get ‘Hal’, the AI bot. I’ve tried to get in contact with a human, but ‘Hal’ keeps telling me he doesn’t understand.
@dbcrypt, to confirm, you are seeing outgoing transactions on a certain date, correct?
I would expect the hard-coded seeds to be different for every fake. Otherwise you can’t sell 20 fakes because your customers will get the same wallets
But this would probably better continue in a ticket.
Please tell Hal that you suspect your device is counterfeit. E.g., “I believe my device is counterfeit.” It will ask you some intro questions and then give you an option to contact customer support.
That makes sense, they’d need different wallets. But if I were to reset this, and it is still hacked, I would not see the warning screen about using the seed correct? I would not be able to create my own?
Buy the Safe 3 which has the Secure Element. The SE can attest itself as being produced by a Trezor factory, and Suite does this as part of the setup flow.
Just make sure your Suite is legit
(It’s still possible to circumvent this step, but it’s hopefully difficult enough not to be worth the attacker’s effort.)

Suite should be doing this automatically at certain times, but I honestly don’t know when exactly. So do it manually to be more certain.

if the device was countertfit, the seed could be in the hands of a scammer?(but if the device had been tampered with, you would’ve got a RED warning on screen? Am I right?)

Apart from Eth and Solana, do you have any other cryptocurrency stored on this device/seed?
Have you ever made the transaction out of the seed to make sure that you could withdraw funds?
You could’ve also done what it’s called the click of death where are you clicked a scammer NFT or you was on a malicious website or you accidentally sent the funds out yourself without knowing by confirming it on the device

No - Trezor has never sent out, until 3/12. All in, by me, over the last 3 years.
I make my living teaching people how to avoid getting scammed online, and cleaning up if they do. I have nothing to do with NFT’s. I’ve never clicked on anything like that. The device has been plugged in maybe 6 times in 3 years, enough to get firmware updates, and see the ‘Send’ button light up in Exodus, telling me I had control of my funds. That’s the extent of it.
There were several coins drained - I don’t think it’s relevant to discuss which. Your scenario is exactly what I suspect. Yet I was told that buying from Trezor store on Amazon was safe! I am quite sure a known seed was already on the device, yet still allowing fw updates. Which means the bad actor has been watching my account since the beginning. And waited until the market peaked to drain it. I do not have any other hardware wallets …
Do you have any of your Own copies of the seed?
I am asking you this, because if it allowed you to see the seed and write it down,(it must’ve been a pre-programme seed tampered device)
If you don’t have any copies, it means therefore it was already set up and you were dumping funds into somebody else’s set up device which they have drained

Hi, I’ve got a question regarding to “Fake Trezor Devices”. The chance that this happens to your device only exists when you buy it from some other seller like amazon for example, right? So if you bought your trezor directly from your official website, there should be everything safe, right? Because this post here made me a bit worried So aslong as my seed is safely stored (only on a piece of paper, nothing more and never entered anywhere on computer or phone) and my trezor device is original, there is no way to steal my crypto, right?

Yes I was, thank you. I got a response this morning, support is asking me (of course) for pictures. I am still struggling to get a good picture, one that represents what my eyes are seeing.
