Monero Support in Trezor Suite

Hello,

I understand that Monero is compatible with Trezor hardware through third-party wallets like the Monero GUI and Feather Wallet and I have no problems with them. My core question is: why is Monero not natively integrated into the Trezor Suite application?

If the primary reason is a matter of development priority or the significant resources required, I would appreciate that clarity. Following that, I have a related question: if an external developer were to submit a pr that adds monero support (similar to how feather wallet does it) to the Trezor Suite, would the Trezor team merge it?

Could you please provide a direct and honest answer regarding the underlying reason? I am seeking to understand whether it is purely a development effort issue, or if there are other factors at play, such as strategic, regulatory, or policy considerations.

Another question: I understand that you can’t verify monero transactions when using the trezor even when using third party wallets. Is this just a feature that hasn’t been implemented in firmware yet or is it maybe even a hardware limitation? Or is it a limitation in the third party wallet software?

Thanks.

I think this post answers most of your questions about Monero; as you can see when it comes to implementing Monero in any wallet interface, the complexity of the privacy solution it offers demands significant developer time. Even if someone did provide a PR to Trezor Suite, it would require consideration of the future maintenance and usability requirements, given that Monero presents significant complexity.

On a professional note, I would add that although it’s not advertised, I have developed a curriculum for Trezor Experts to use for onboarding people new to Monero given the additional complexities using the Monero blockchain presents, and I am committed to continue providing it over Trezor Expert Consultation sessions on request. Should you be interested in this curriculum for professional or personal use, I’d be happy to discuss further.
