Deprecation and removal of standalone Trezor Bridge

When I logged into the web version of Trezor Suite, it showed me an article saying I need to remove the standalone Trezor Bridge from my computer
I remember that without it, the web version of Trezor Suite couldn’t detect my Trezor

I’ve been using only the web Trezor Suite my whole life — will I still be able to use it after removing the standalone Bridge?
Or will I be forced to switch to the desktop app if I uninstall it?

If you are using Google Chrome or another browser with webUSB compatibility you can use Trezor Suite for web without installing the desktop version.

I remember back when I first bought my Trezor, it wouldn’t connect even though I was always using Google Chrome
That’s why they suggested I install the Standalone Trezor Bridge — and after installing it, everything worked fine

Yes, previously it was necessary to always have Trezor Bridge installed when using the web version. However, due to recent changes to our device communication protocols, it is now necessary to uninstall and connect with webUSB on Google Chrome instead.

What happens if I just leave it installed?
I don’t really want to risk it — what if, after uninstalling, I somehow can’t access my hidden wallet again?

P.S. The risk comes from the fact that for at least two weeks, another user and I have been facing a bug where, even with the correct passphrase, it said “wallet is empty,” but if you entered it again, the coins appeared.
I tagged you in that thread, but you’re not responding :frowning:

Eventually the connection between Trezor Suite and your device will break permanently if it hasn’t already. Simply put, standalone Trezor Bridge is a deprecated part of our technology stack, and we have been phasing it out. There are no plans to support it or updates it further, which could pose potential risks to your computer if a bug with Trezor Bridge were ever found.

We are looking into your issue in the other thread. However, it is a more complex issue.

Your Trezor Bridge’s been open-source for ages, so I reckon the chance of a vuln being found in the future is pretty low

We’ve discontinued support for Trezor Bridge, which means continuing to use it will eventually require running outdated versions of Trezor Suite. Doing so carries certain risks — you won’t receive automatic security or product updates, and future updates may not be installable.

As mentioned earlier, we’re only able to provide full support for users running the latest software versions. Since you’ve chosen to continue using older versions, there’s not much more we can add on this topic.

The old Bridge cannot support Trezor Safe 7’s encrypted protocol, which may possibly get backported to some existing models.

We will also no longer maintain the Bridge to work with newer operating systems, so at a certain point it may break due to something like driver conflict or w/e.

That said, you are very likely OK for as long as the Bridge works for you. It’s just that when it stops working, nobody’s gonna come and fix it.

I only use the browser version of Trezor Suite, so I don’t think the updates should affect me too much

Then I guess I’ll just keep using it until it stops working, and uninstall it afterward.

Hope webUSB will be as stable as Trezor Bridge.

I wrote Trezor Bridge (but also WebUSB support  ) when I was still working at trezor (I am not anymore!), glad that it still works for you

I think over time if someone really tries, they can add the new protocol into old go bridge, but it won’t be supported in suite anyway, so you will need to be running forked version of Suite, at which point you should probably bite the bullet and try to get everything working properly

Hi! This should be reconsidered or at least give a workaround for us using USBIP, sadly Trezor Suite doesn’t work when Trezor device is connected to one pc and Trezor Suite is accesed in another pc (USBIP used in QubesOS).

Previously only way to get it to work was to run trezord with -r=false. If you guys are removing the legacy bridge completely, at least make the replacement compatible (not sure if a reset=false flag will also work there, but willing to test if there’s any code I can check out)

Hi, sorry to but into the middle of this topic but it’s very related to my own question and I still haven’t found a way here yet to post an original query so this is the only way I’ve found so far (if anyone can tell me how to start a new thread It’d be much appreciated thanks  ..Anyway here’s my problem ….. I only use web version of trezor suite with trezor bridge installed because I run Firefox on an older windows version on which the Desktop App no longer worked …and all worked fine. I then uninstalled trezor bridge as per deprecation advice and now immediately afterwards my trezor can’t be accessed. I tried using Chrome as advised instead but it still doesn’t find my trezor and I believe this is because Chrome hasn’t been updating to latest updates also due to not supporting the older windows version. So, until I finally can afford an update to a newer computer and operating system, I just wanted to download and install the trezor bridge again but can’t find it easily up on the trezor website ..any advice here welcome thanks

I’m sorry, but if you are running a Windows version earlier than Windows 10 I cannot help as such computers are neither supported nor recommended by Trezor.
