Trezor Suite suddenly asks for passphrase, which I haven't set, so I installed older firmware, trouble ensues

I tried installing an older firmware (1.8.0), but that seems to have bricked the device.
All device settings are greyed out, except for “turn off firmware authenticity check”. Turning that off does nothing meaningful.
Trezor manual says to do a factory reset, but it does not give me that option.
It’s a Trezor one.
Help?

you should be able to connect Trezor in bootloader mode (hold down left button while connecting the USB cable), and then Suite should offer you the option to upgrade the firmware back to where you started

Yeah, thanks, I got it to work. Somehow I overlooked the little message that a device was connected in bootloader mode. I even seem to have gotten rid of the passphrase message that wasn’t allowing me to withdraw.
Really got me worried there for an hour or two!

@matejcik Any thoughts on why the device would prompt me for a passphrase, when I have none set?

I believe there was a bug related to, I think, Solana? where it would ask you for a passphrase even in standard wallet.

there’s nothing to worry about though. The passphrase is “always enabled” in a sense: the “standard” wallet is just a passphrase wallet with an empty passphrase. So if you’re asked for a passphrase, you can enter nothing and proceed.

Thanks for the reply.

Nothing to worry about, you say.
Well, it did have me worried! I don’t have any solana, just BTC, and no hidden wallets. Got that message nonetheless. Whatever I filled as my passphrase, nothing worked. Made me think I had lost my funds.

If this is some kind of joke, and even if it isn’t, please convey my displeasure to the dev team. Hopefully, this bug is absent from your software in the next update.
