I am inputting my recovery seed trazor one device is asking me for my 1st word of my seed I enter that then on the device it will ask me to type another word before moving on to 2nd word of my seed and so on is this normal?
First things first: you probably have 12-word seed and you are recovering it via the Standard recovery method (entering words on the PC).
I strongly recommend you don’t do that, and instead choose Advanced recovery.
Standard recovery is designed with 24 word in mind – the extra security margin is needed to make it secure to enter the words via PC. Despite some additional measures, using it with a 12-word seed is not recommended.
With Standard recovery, Trezor will ask you for your words in scrambled order. There is only 1 in 24 chance that you enter your first word as the first item – if this happens often (or always), you should be very suspicious.
If your seed has less than 24 words, Trezor will randomly generate and inject words that it wants you to enter, so that the total number is 24. An example session may look like this:
- “Enter the word
abandon
” - “Enter word 11 of your seed”
- “Enter the word
expose
” - “Enter the word
yellow
” - “Enter word 2 of your seed”
etc.
With Advanced recovery, your Trezor will show a letter matrix and you will enter the letters and words via a blind keypad – the same way you enter your PIN. That way, malware cannot sniff the actual words, so it is safe to enter them (a) in order and (b) only the words of the seed, without the injected words.
ok thank you I understand. My 12 word seed was from very old wallet and it was first time I used in years I have now changed.
