Bought a Safe 3 directly from Trezor last week but it arrived with the package torn and the hologram on the device was the pre April 2024 one. The recovery card is for 12 and not 20 words too. Why would I not receive the latest version? Should I be worried?
Hi @rayd,
it’s good to be suspicious, but personally i would be worried only if the package was opened or hologram was damaged/missing or firmware was already preinstalled. Just a torn may be sign of improper package handling. And yes at the beginning it was delivered with 12 word wallet backup card, but there is 20 words template on Trezor’s web page - if you search for Wallet backup card
to print your own.
Or even better, you can buy something more robust than paper like Trezor Keep Metal
To make your own decision - there is a nice summary on Trezor learn portal page Authenticate Trezor Safe 3
.
I can imagine complex chain - manufacturing, warehousing, logistics. Trezor probably make a batches of devices, it is simply not “just in time, just in sequence delivery” process (like automotive industry is know to mastering these techniques - works perfectly until something like Covid hits you with chip crisis and were unable to deliver cars for a year).
If it has Secure Element chip and Trezor Suites proves genuineness, than it would prove to me, that the device was not tampered.
Thanks for your input.
Thing that bothers me is it is nearly a year since the new hologram. Surely they would have been near the end of the run of the ‘old’ one before the launch of the ‘new’ one and you would have thought they would have cleared any old stock by now.
One of the reasons for buying directly from Trezor is peace of mind and you would also expect to receive the very latest up to date issue of the wallet.
I agree, that i would wish the same - i also want to have latest & greatest. No offence here, but for that reason i could not live with TS3, knowing that TS5 was RTM (Released To Manufacturing) cca one year after TS3.
On the other hand, if it has Secure Element chip (T3B1 model), than the difference is hologram & paper “seed” template. You download the latest firmware anyway, so it will be the same at the end. If you keep it next 5+ / 10 years, than it doesn’t matter if it was manufactured in begging or end of 2024.
Personally i wouldn’t keep Trezor soo long I would love to see TS7 with Tropic Square announcement this year on BTC Prague 2025. Finger crossed
and wating for buy signal
latter this year

PS: try to open a support ticket to have an official statement, if you still feel it like in the initial post.
