MATIC -> POL upgrade

In Sept MATIC moves to POL.
Do I need to do anything, will my MATIC become POL in trezor suite?
Or will I need to use metamask instead?
What’s the situation.

Hi @doge,

Holders of MATIC on the Polygon PoS network won’t have to take any action. POL will be upgraded automatically there.

For the MATIC on the Ethereum network (ERC20 token) or on Polygon zkEVM, the process will be different. We will inform our users with the details on how to do it later.

We just started looking into this. Eventually, you will have to migrate MATIC tokens to POL somehow.

But from the Polygon blog, there is no rush

To ensure a smooth technical upgrade, there are currently no deadlines for MATIC holders on Ethereum and Polygon zkEVM to upgrade to POL.

According to Polygon reddit, Polygon is developing a migration tool which should make things easier, so keeping an eye on that.

Just saying there needs to be a proactive email sent out (to all). Coinbase did it for their customers ( I do not have MATIC on Coinbase)
I opened a case prior to finding this thread. Save your self some hassles with a ton of cases and put an email out

Migrating MATIC tokens held in your Ethereum Account

Trezor Suite is developing a tool to assist in the migration of MATIC held on your Ethereum account to POL. When available you will be able to perform a 1:1 swap of MATIC to POL. As the migration is occurring on the Ethereum blockchain, gas fees will need to be paid.

I’d rather do it via the Trezor suite then the polygon website above.

Was this added in the latest suite update?

Do we really need to use a 3rd party app “Metamask” to convert/swap from MATIC to POL? I really don’t like using 3rd party apps. Is this the only way to convert EC20 Matic to POL?

Yes, 1:1 migration of MATIC to POL tokens is currently available in the Swap feature of Trezor Suite. I recommend making sure you are selecting the MATIC and POL token options on the Ethereum network. Otherwise the swap will not register.
