Hi everyone!
I have two questions and I’m sorry if they have been asked before (I have tried to look for them here and on reddit without any luck).
I have been using Trezor one and Trezor T (I have one each) before but have now ordered a Trezor 5. Because Im really paranoid (hence my user name), I would like to ask:
When I connect the Trezor 5 to the computer and download the firmware from Trezor Suite, how can I be 100% assured that the software isn’t tampered with? My computer is a couple of years old and I have different programs on and have downloaded loads of different programs on it during the years. So I always assume that my computer is a cesspool of viruses and spyware.
So is there (even if the chances are extremely slim) in theory possible for someone to make a “virus” so when I download the the firmware from Trezor Suite to my new Trezor 5 I get a “bad software” that can be tampered with? For an example, Im planning on making new seed words and is there a risk that the seed words won’t be random so a hacker can get them/brute force/figure them out?
Question 1: Would it be safe to download the firmware on an super infected computer or is the correct route to use a completely new computer or any thing else you recommend?
Question 2: When I do an update to my Trezor T from Trezor Suite, there is a confirmation of letters and number that Trezor Suit shows and I should confirm on my Trezor T, the letters and number on the Trezor Suite is usually something like this HbHJhjd138rBHnmf (something random like that) and when I look at the Trezor T, its like this: hbhjhjd138rbhnmf. All the “upper case/big letters” are then “lower case/small letters” on the Trezor T. I haven’t had any problems with the update and my funds so far, but it’s always something I think about that the letters don’t match exact with lower case and upper case. How comes?
Would be super thankful if anyone could take time to answer this questions for me.
Lastly, thanks for a great product and keeping my funds safe.
