I have my BTC stored on my trezor safe 3 and its configured to bit coin only. As I want to add crypto and tokens to it now, I will have to change my trezor to universal (or buy a secondary wallet, which I dont want to do), My 2 questions are…
Will my BTC be safe during the process if I switched it to universal?
And if so will I be forced to replace my seed phrase?
Hi @BOBull,
i’m late with answer, but maybe someone else could find it useful when google searching.
EDIT: Model-T back & forth transition between Bitcoin-only vs. Universal goes smoothly (as mentioned bellow Trezor Safe behaviour is different). But you have to assume things go wrong, so you need to have wallet backup (aka seed recovery). Also during this firmware swich you have to confirm you have valid wallet backup. At the same FW switch screen you are ofered to dry-run your wallet backup check. It is definitely recommended to dry-run your wallet backup check if you never checked it before.
No. In case of some failure you would just restore your current wallet backup.
on the Safe family, when switching firmware from Universal to Bitcoin-only, seed is always erased. Trezor screen will warn you that this will happen, and you will need to restore your wallet from backup after you’re done.
Damn it. I Before replying i made the test on Model-T only Sorry for incorrect information.
